House of Darwin Returns to Melbourne Fashion Week
House of Darwin Returns to Melbourne Fashion Week
For the second time, House of Darwin took to the runway at Melbourne Fashion Week, bringing a piece of the Northern Territory to one of Australia's biggest fashion stages.
This year's collection was built in collaboration with Bábbarra Women's Centre in Maningrida, Arnhem Land celebrating the artists, stories and textile traditions that have been part of the Centre for generations.
Drawing from Bábbarra's archive of hand screen-printed designs from the 1990s, the collection reimagined historic artworks across House of Darwin's signature oversized silhouettes. Styled with flowing skirts, bold jewellery and contemporary tailoring, the runway became a meeting point between traditional storytelling and modern Australian fashion.
More than a collection, it was an opportunity to showcase what collaboration can look like when community sits at the centre of the creative process.
For decades, Bábbarra Women's Centre has empowered Aboriginal women through art, creating textiles that carry stories of Country while providing meaningful employment and preserving cultural knowledge. Bringing these works back into the spotlight allowed a new audience to experience the depth and beauty of Arnhem Land's creative legacy.
As with every House of Darwin project, the collaboration extended beyond fashion. A portion of proceeds from the collection will continue to support the women of Bábbarra Women's Centre, ensuring their work and stories continue to be shared for generations to come.
For House of Darwin, Melbourne Fashion Week is more than a runway. Living in the Northern Territory, it's a chance to connect with Australia's broader creative industry while proudly representing where we're from. Every collection becomes another invitation for people to look north, to discover the people, places and stories that make the Territory unlike anywhere else.
The response throughout the week reaffirmed that Indigenous fashion continues to shape the future of Australian design. We were proud to stand alongside so many incredible creatives while showing that purpose-led fashion can celebrate culture, create opportunity and give back to community.
Thank you to Melbourne Fashion Week, the Bábbarra Women's Centre artists and team, everyone who helped bring the collection to life, and every person who came to support us.
We'll see you up north.
